5 Month Post-Grad Check In

Hey everyone, today’s blog post is going to be my 5 month post-grad check in. It’s crazy for me to believe that it was just five short months ago that I walked off a stage with my diploma in hand, but here we are. I’ve decided to break this post up into personal life, work stuff, and what my plans for the future are. Check out my post below!

Personal Life

My personal life has been an adjustment, to say the least. My work schedule is a little wonky, so my weekends are basically Monday-Wednesday, which are my days off. So because of that, seeing my friends (who are still mostly in college) can be a bit of a challenge. However, living with a gaggle of boys for roommates has managed to help my friend life stay above water, just because there is always someone around to hang out with or just watch TV and chat.

I’m still living with my boyfriend, which is great. We’ve pretty much gotten over any of the challenges typical people in relationships have when they first move in together, but that probably is because we pretty much lived together when I was still living in the dorms! We always try and find the time to have dinner together, and we’ve been looking to have more movie dates once his midterms have relaxed and better movies are out in theaters.

Honestly, I’ve been stuck in a rut in my own head trying to keep up with finding real hobbies to do outside of my work hours. I’ve been planning out blog posts and ideas I want to follow through with this area of my life. Another hobby I’ve taken up is making my own sticker and decorations for my planner, which I’ve found is a great artistic outlet for myself, since I’ve always loved creating things and making graphic design stuff. Lastly in hobby news, I’ve started taking an interest in baking. Maybe it’s just me settling down on my days off, but I’ve loved baking ad making sweet treats for myself. I truly love deserts, however baking has kept me from spending way too much money across the street at the cupcake shop. Let me know if you’d like to see any baking posts from me in the future!

Work Life

About a week or so after graduation I managed to find a full time job working across the river from where I live. It’s been a great experience working there, and I’ve been able to gain a lot of work experience from this job! The only  essential non-issue that I’ve found is that I work weekends and holidays, which isn’t that much of a big deal in the long run, just something that took me a few weeks to get used to. However, since I have the three days off and I’m a slightly less broke post-grad, I still am looking for a part-time job to help fill my time and allow me to have a little bit of extra money. Lastly, at the start of the summer my dad bought me a car for commuting to work, which led to an entire summer of car disaster stories, however at the start of August my car horror has come to a close and it’s been working great! I still only have a driver’s permit, however my boyfriend has been driving me to and from work until I get my license.

Future Plans

In the future I’m looking to attend graduate school next fall. I’ve started looking into graduate programs and even toured one school last month. I also plan on moving into an apartment with my boyfriend after out lease ends in May, so I’ve been looking into the costs of moving and general apartment hunting tips. Also, as mentioned before, I’m looking for a part-time job for a little extra cash. Lastly in my future plans, I’m hoping to have my driving license by the end of November, and have already signed up for a set of driving lessons.

Let me know in the comments below if you liked this sort of post and if you’re a post-grad, how you’ve been doing in the months since graduation. I think that I’ll be doing a post like this every few month or so as things changes. See you next time!
