Minimal Makeup Collection

Hey everyone and welcome back to my blog! Today I thought that I’d share my makeup collection and why/how I have minimized my makeup stash. For some background info, I’ve been interested and wearing makeup regularly since my freshman year of college, which would be around 4 or 5 years ago. I just to have a massive collection of makeup (pretty heavily drugstore brands) and I have massively decluttered the summer before my senior year of college and throughout this past year. Check out which products I’ve kept in my collection and why I’ve minimized my collection below!

I try to keep my moisturizers and primers together since they pretty much do the same thing with my skin. Starting on the right, I have the Formula 10.0.6 Picture Perfect Day Moisturizer. I bought this because it has SPF 15 Sunscreen, which is really important throughout the year, but especially in the summer months when outside. Next up is the NYX CC Cream in Green. I like using this when my face is more red than usual and I’ll be wearing a sheer coverage foundation/powder. After that is my latest find, the Garnier Clearly Brighter Moisturizer. This came in a sample box I receive, and it has SPF 15 and brightens my skin, so I’ve been reaching for that recently. Next is the Rimmel Stay Matte Primer, which is great when I’m looking for a matte finish on my skin. Lastly, I have a sample of the Urban Decay B6 Prep Spray, and I don’t reach for this often unless I feel like it’s a special occasion.

The first product on the right is my Maybelline Fit Me Powder in Porcelain, which is a more recent purchase and something I use to set my foundation or concealer. Next is the Covergirl Ready Set Gorgeous in Creamy Natural. I used to like this foundation,  but it does feel and look a bit cakey on my skin sometimes. Next is the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in Light, which is a nice color for covering up my dark circles. Lastly is the more recent foundation purchase, which is the Rimmel Lasting Finish Foundation in Light Ivory. This also has a tendency to dry out around my nose, but overall I like the formula and color of this foundation.

Starting again on the right is a rose gold blush I received from my roommate throughout college and doesn’t have a name/brand on it. I haven’t reached for this recently, but because the rose gold color looks nice on tanner skin I might give this a go during the summer. Next is my Covergirl blush in Rose Silk, which is a pretty rosy pink color. Next up is my sample of the Dew the Hoola Liquid Bronzer, which I have to admit isn’t a product I’m too fond of but trying to find a use for. Lastly is my trusty ELF Contouring Blush & Bronzer Duo. I love the blush, which is pink with some smaller gold sparkles almost, and the bronzer is alright for when I want to use it, which isn’t too often to be fair.

Eye Products

First up is my only eyeliner, the Rimmel Exaggerate Liquid Eye Liner. I love this stuff to death and haven’t had any problems with it in the few months I’ve owned it. Next is probably my favorite mascara ever, a sample size of the Buxom Mascara. I love this stuff because it makes my lashes look fuller and longer! After that is my previous favorite mascara, the Benefit They’re Real Mascara. I like this product but it doesn’t work as well as the Buxom one does for me. Next is my trusty IT Cosmetics Universal Brow Powder, which I love for filling in my brows. Lastly is the Milani Shadow Eyez in Brown Deluxe, which I don’t reach for often but can be used as a base to create a dramatic, bronzed look.

I purged a bunch of drugstore palettes and these three are the few that survived. The first on the right is the Sephora Blinged Palette, which was a birthday present to myself my freshman year of college. I love the eyeshadows on this palette, the lipsticks aren’t long lasting in my opinion, and the blush is so small it tends to spread into the lipsticks next to it. Next to that is the Benefit Sugarlicious Kit, which includes the Sugarbomb blush, Benetint, High Beam highlighter, and the Sugarbomb lip gloss. I love this kit immensely, it has a group of products I love to use on a regular basis! Lastly is the Wet and Wild I’m Getting Sunburnt Trio, I love the gold color in the kit and the others I use every now and then on occasion.

Lip Products

The first set of lip products I own are the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams. I absolutely love these liquid lipsticks, the formula i really hydrating and they last pretty long. The shades I have, starting from the right, are Copenhagen, Madrid, San Paulo, and Stockholm. The shades are really pretty and true to the packaging.

Next up are the Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters, which used to be all the rage and they are a pretty nice and hydrating lipstick. From right I own Raspberry Pie, Pink Truffle, Sorbet, Pink Lemonade, and Candy Apple.

Lastly we have my miscellaneous lip products, which include Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Adore. This is a lovely red stain that has a nice mint taste, and to be honest it feels somewhat lip pumping. Next is the Bare Minerals Marvelous Moxie Lip Gloss in Birthday Babe. I’m not really a fan of lip glosses in general, but this was my Ulta birthday gift so I’m basically just holding onto it. Then I have the Sugar Petal Tinted Lip Treatment, which is a really nice treatment on the lips but overall I’m not a fan of the color. Lastly I have a Bite Beauty Mini Lipstick Set, which includes the colors Chiraz, Musk, Retsina, Pomegranate, and Fig. I don’t really use this set often, mostly just on special occasions.

 Why I’ve Minimized

While I did enjoy collecting makeup and finding new and exciting products, I really have come to the conclusion that wearing minimal makeup is just right for me, at least in my current lifestyle. I wake up about fifteen minutes before I have to walk out of the door (gotta have that sleep, right?!) and I just can’t spend that time only on my makeup. Plus, I realized that even when I have time to really sit down and do my makeup, I’m reaching for the same handful of products. My last, and probably most important reason for downsizing is that it’s just too expensive of a hobby for me at this stage in my life. I try to avoid spending money frivolously when I can, and I only want to spend money on a product if I’m sure it’s going to be a good fit for me. I’m trying to build up my savings and I just can’t do that by spending money on products I’ll realistically use once or twice. I really admire people who are able to keep up with the current makeup trends and hope that one day I could have that hobby again, however I’m content now with my makeup collection and my everyday makeup use.
