Hey everyone and welcome to a new year! I know we all say this every year, but I absolutely cannot believe that today is the first day of a new year. While I don’t love the word “resolutions,” I do think that at the start of a new year or period of your life, you should make specific goals for that time period. With a move to a new state just a few short days away (more info on that in the near future!), I thought I’d share some of my goals for the year of 2017. This year I decided to separate my goals out in different categories that focused on parts of my life I wanted to enrich. Check out my 2017 Resolutions out below!
Take Dance Classes
I spent the vast majority of my childhood in a dance studio multiple days a week. I took tap, ballet, hip hop, jazz, the whole works. But in my last year of middle school, money became tight and I had to give up one of my favorite hobbies. Now that I’m a somewhat adult and the thought of exercising at a gym exhausts me, I’m thinking that getting back into dance classes would help me get in better shape, become more flexible, and meet people with similar interests.
Learn Spanish
My father’s side of my family is from Venezuela and I grew up hearing Spanish being spoken constantly around me through my grandmother. Once I hit school and was being taught the language formally, however, I lost interest in learning languages in general. I picked it back up in college for the general education requirements, but now that I have more free time I’d like to exercise my brain, gain a helpful skill, and get more in touch with a part of my family’s history.
Reach $5,000 in Savings
I’m a relatively cheap person usually, I typically hate buying anything of significance for myself, so putting money in my savings this past year has been somewhat easy for me. But now that I’m paying for a new apartment, furniture, and other household items we don’t already own, I’m feeling like I could be reaching more potential with my savings account. While it is important to treat yourself on occasion and not feel guilty about fun purchases, I also see the importance on having money to fall back on in case of emergency.
Finish all my Creative Projects
I, like most people, love starting new creative projects but never seem to get around to finishing them. I start many a crocheting project only to never finish it and let it sit in my knitting bag. I start writing projects and abandon them after a few short paragraphs. DIY, sometimes I even stop planning when I’m feeling down one week. My goal in 2017 is to finish the projects I begin, which will make me feel fulfilled in my work and also have a viable outcome.
Begin my Career Path
I have been working continuously since I have graduated college, but I don’t think I have found the career path I feel most passionate about. In this new year I would like to discover a road to finding a career I am most passionate about, and I would like to take my first steps down that path. I’ve been job searching now that I will be moving, so I would like to take this opportunity to really discover what I am passionate about in a professional sense.
